<br />. <br />"" ' <br /> <br />\ <br /> <br />State Operational Reports <br />North American Interstate Weather Modification Conncil Meeting <br />Rapid City, South Dakota April 24, 2003 <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Utah Summary Report for NAIWMC <br />April 2003 <br /> <br />The 2002--2003 winter season has five active project areas as shown on the <br />attached map, The map also shows past projects not active this year. The <br />following page shows the active years for all wintertime projects in Utah. The five. <br />large-scale projects are all being seeded using silver iodide ground' generiltoci- <br />operated by North American Weather Consultants.. A total of ??? ground <br />generators are being used in this year's program. A map showing the generator <br />locations is attached. The total estimated cost for these projects is $361,600 of <br />which the state will pay $150,000 (41.5 percent of the estimated cost.). . Seasons Seeding Period <br />Central/Southern Utah 65 25 14% <br />Tooele County 8 18 19% <br />East Box EIder/Cache County 23 14 16% <br />West Uintas 15 8 5% <br />Uinta Mountains I8 <br /> <br />Emery Water Conservancy District is operating a small-scale project using <br />three high elevation ground based liquid propane seeders on the Wasatch Plateau <br />within the Central and Southern Utah project area, This is a continuation of part of <br />the NOAA research project conducted in the 1990s. <br /> <br />The cloud seeding usually ends on or before March 31 each year for four of <br />the projects, The Uinta Mountains project ends on or before April 30. Two of the <br />four projects seeded into April until their funds ran out. The Uinta Mountain <br />project is still seeding, <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />The snowpack is below normal tills year for the 51h year in a row. The <br />snowpack April 1 st varied from 50-70% in the north to less than 50 per cent in the <br />south with some areas of 70-90% in between. The snowpack generally peaks near <br />
