<br />i <br />f, <br /> <br />Purpose of the Strategic Plan <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />In 2001, the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) undertook a strategic planning <br />process. The purpose: to create a Strategic Plan that would provide the citizens of Colorado, <br />and its water users and others, with an understandijJ.g of how this organization will achieve <br />its mandate to Conserve, Develop, Protect, and Manage Colorado's Water for Present and Future <br />Generations in accordance with applicable state and federal law and regulations. <br /> <br />The Strategic Plan willbe used by the Board to: <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Identify policy development needs <br />Set program clirection <br />Define program and project priorities <br />Develop staff performance goals <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />CWCB Mission Statement <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Conserve, Develop, Protect and Manage Colorado's <br />Water for Present and Future Generations <br /> <br />Fundamental Goals <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />CWCB must develop and implement programs to: <br /> <br />. Conserve the waters of the State for wise and :efficient beneficial uses <br /> <br />. Develop waters of the State to: <br /> <br />~ Preserve the natural environment to a reasonable degree <br />~ Fully utilize State compact entitlements <br /> <br />. Protect the waters of the State for maximum beneficial use without waste <br /> <br />. Manage the waters of the State in situations qf extreme weather conditions - both for <br />floods and droughts ' <br /> <br />In addition, CWCB must maintain and 8ustain its autonomy and identity with respect to <br />other State and Federal entities, while collaborating and cooperating with local, State and <br />Federal entities and others, in service to the citizens of Colorado. <br /> <br />These Fundamental Goals apply to all of the majqr programs and projects undertaken by <br />CWCB, and to all the staff working within this orsanization. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Final <br /> <br />March 10, 2002 <br /> <br />Page 2 of5 <br />
