102

I

Reconnaissance reports on the San Miguel and Little Snake will soon be
ready. The Cliffs Divide Project is being worked on now. Three units
of that project are completed and two units are 95 per cent complete.
The report should leave. Mr. Jenning's office by July 1, 1953. The
Animas-La Plata project will take several years to complete.

Discussion of the time necessary to complete the surveys
and information which will be included in the surveys ensued.

The meeting recessed at 12:05 p.m. to reconvene at

1:30 p.m.

~~ 'C- 1~ .o)~ .~ 11- -;~ -;f

Afternoon Session

Febr~ary 16, 1953

The meeting was called to order at 1:50 p.m. by Vice-Chairman
George J. Bailey.

~~. Larson stated that the report on the Colorado Rive above
Grand Junction ;vill incDlde all information the Bureau has to date on
municipa~ and industrial uses.

1.lr. Breitenstein referred to Section 15 of the Boulder Canyon
Project Act which provides for the surveys, heretofore mentioned, and
asked if the 1946 Basin Report satisfied the Boulder Canyon Project Act
of 1928.

Mr. Riter of the Bureau of Reclamation stated that the
Bureau considered the 1946 comprehensive report as fulfilbnent of the
Act of 1928 and that the 1946 report represented the best information
available. 'ilhen asked if either he or Mr. Larson could give an estimate
of when the investigations will be completed, Mr. Riter said they could
not. He called attention to the fact that those investigations always
uncover many more problems, thus making a longer period of time necessary.
It depends, also, he said, on funds available for that purpose.

I

liIr. Breitenstein asked lJr. Riter if he thought the
investigations could be completed in five years. .

Mr. Riter replied that he thought that it could be done in

that time.

Discussion on the matter ensued.
