January 28-29, 1998, Board Meeting--
Riverside Reservoir and Land Company

Approval of a Construction Fund Authorization in amount of $450,000 for
construction of an emergency spillway on Riverside Reservoir, and for the
purchase of land, and approval of a $2,500 grant from the Small Dam Site
Reconnaissance Fund to complete the Feasibility Study. (This item has been
carried over from the November 24, 1997 Board meeting, item 17n.)

BACKGROUND

This item was considered at the November 24, 1997 Board Meeting, and deferred to the January
28, 1998 meeting to allow time to draft the feasibility study.)

The Riverside Reservoir and Land Company (RRLC), located in Weld County, has applied for a
Construction Fund Authorization to construct an emergency spillway on Riverside Reservoir, and
to purchase the BLM land that lies within the reservoir basin, and immediately adjacent to the
reservoir. The Company is requesting a $450,000 Authorization from the Construction Fund for
the spillway and land purchase, approximat~ly 85% of the estimated total cost of $530,000. The
Riverside Reservoir is located about 25 miles west of Fort Morgan (see attached map.) The
reservoir has a capacity of 63,400 acre feet. The State Engineer's Office has imposed a nominal
restriction of 0.05 feet (storage loss of 200 acre feet) due the lack of an emergency spillway,

W. W. Wheeler and Associates PE, has completed reconnaissance level engineering design
work, and a draft of the feasibility study. The estimated total cost of the study will be $5000.
Portions of the feasibility study are attached.
