MR. KUIPER: You're in the Fox Hills area?

MR. DENTON: That's right. We've got a new process on these wells and
there was one drilled in the area :to the east. We found a new way' to -.
get water up more - you know, it's a long way up. It's very expensive
and we've used small six and eight-inch wells. And now we've found
there's a new way that we can go up to a fifteen-inch well with about I
a twelve-inch casing, and we can almost triple the'amount of water we
can get tp the surface for about the same amount of cost. ' The cost of '
the wells in those days were about eighty-five hundred and they're
about fifty thousand today.

MR. STAPLETpN: Any further questions?

. (No response.)

MR. STAPLETON:'. Thank you very mUch.

.
I will entertain a motion to approve the ,Keenesburg project.

MR. BENTON: I so move.

MR. JACKSON: Second.

MR; STAPLETON: It's been regularly moved and ,seconded. All those in
favor, signify by saying "Aye."-

(Unanimous "Ayes.")

MR. STAPLETON: Opposed?
(No response.)
It's approved.

.
I think we'll skip the Winter ,Park project ,for the moment. :I.didn't
know that we would be proceeding so expeditiously. I.told them that ,we
could hear them at two o'clock because they had a few people that they
had to.gather around. So we~lljust overlook ,Winter ,park for the present
and go to Overland.

MR. SPARKS: This is an irrigation~roject in Delta County near the town
of Hotchkiss. The Overland people have had a great deal of grief with
their reservoir. They are very heavily indebted on their system. It
irrigates some of the best farmland in Delta County on the,Redlands. I
Mesa and adjacent area. They have had a partial failure of an existing
reservoir, and as a result, they have had to greatly reduce the capacity.
It I S worked a tremendous hardship upon the farmers, in that area in tl:)at
their water supply has been greatly reduced. They really have to
scratch now to keep their heads above water financially.

Those people have been working for some fifteen years that I know of to
try to solve the problem. The Bureau of Reclamation has indicated tl:)at
it would be willing to put this project in a high category for a small

-30-
