<br />base of Grand Mesa, Clay's second reservoir, located southwest of the Highline State Park and
<br />bordered by Interstate 70 on the south, would cover the town of Mack with about 300,000 acre-
<br />feet of water.

<br />Palisade to Sponsor White-water Park: The town of Palisade has endorsed plans to build a
<br />whitewater park on the Colorado River and wilI sponsor an application for $200,000 from Great
<br />Outdoors Colorado this fall. Construction of a park for competitive kayaking and other boating
<br />activities wilI cost about $260,000

<br />The park's proposed location is near the Price-Stubb Dam, a few miles south of the Powderhorn
<br />exit off Interstate 70, The park is in an unincorporated area of Mesa County, but the Mesa
<br />County Commission declined a request for support in August because commissioners already
<br />were committed to a GOCO application for the development of Long Memorial Family Park.

<br />A second phase, which the GOCO grant would not cover, calIs for giving kayakers and other
<br />boaters direct access to the park. Plans include construction of a nearby parking lot so whitewater
<br />enthusiasts don't have to enter the water farther upstream and float down the river to enjoy the
<br />park,

<br />Club 20 Plans Task Force On River-Access Issue: Club 20 members have decided to form a
<br />panel after a debate on river access to private property during a recent Club 20 meeting, The
<br />nine-person panel will be made up of people appointed by the agriculture, tourism and water
<br />committees from Club 20, Each committee wilI appoint three members to the task force,

<br />New Keystone Reservoir: Keystone Resort wants to build a reservoir that could more than
<br />double its snowmaking capabilities, The reservoir would hold 110 acre-feet of water - roughly 36
<br />million gallons, If the reservoir is approved by the U,S, Forest Service and built, Keystone would
<br />be able to make snow at 10,000 galIons per minute instead of the current 4,000 gallons per
<br />minute, Depending upon how environmental reviews go, the reservoir could be built for the
<br />2005-06 or 2006-07 ski season, lfthe permit is granted, Keystone would build a 550-foot-Iong,
<br />40-foot-tall dam for a 19-foot-deep pond, Keystone owns 1,350 acre-feet of water rights on the
<br />Snake River.

<br />Mathis to Head River District Board: On Feb, 1 The Colorado River Water Conservation
<br />District's Board of Directors elected a new slate of officers and welcomed a new Grand County
<br />director to the 15-member board,

<br />Stephen M, Mathis, a Montrose lawyer who has represented Montrose County on the Colorado
<br />River District Board for the past seven years, was elected president. He succeeds Paul 000 of
<br />Grand County, who has retired from the board after 12 years, Mathis is a 33-year Colorado
<br />resident and has practiced law since 1975,
