"Are there any comments that any members
of the audience would like to make on the
Narrows Project? There are some interested
people here."

"Mr. Chairman."

"Mr. Ogilvie. Would you take the micro-
phone, please?"

"I'd like to make a very brief comment.
Mr. Chairman, with respect to the position of
the Bureau of Reclamation. I'll say we are
extremely happy over the progress that seems
to be evolving with respect to the Narrows
studies. The interest in the development -
the expanded development - is very evident
and we've had repeated calls in our office
from municipalities and from interested
groups up and down the Platte Valley.

With respect to the committe~, our ex-
perience on steering committees, I would say,
would be that we would recommend holding it
to a small number in the interest of having
objective consideration of the problems in-
volved and in the interest of moving as
rapidly as we can inasmuch as we are trying
to complete this study in about two years.
And when I say small, I would like to see it
in the neighborhood of maybe seven people.
As far as we are concerned a little larger
wouldn't hurt. I think it's essentially a
state problem. That's merely our recommenda-
tion."

"Mr. Chairman, I might make this statement.
My recollection, having worked on this some-
time ago, is that there are around 300 to 400
ditch companies in the area, a hundred munici-
plaities, 19 counties, two conservancy dis-
tricts - the Upper South Platte and the North-
ern Colorado. It's going to be impossible to
have all these people represented.
