Conservation plans must play an important role in state's
drought planning. This funding will be used to help local entities prepare and implement conservation
plans,

Recommendation: Staff gives a medium recommendation to the funding of this project because the
Covered Entity proposal is just being "kicked-off' and time is needed to ascertain what steps need to be
taken next.

4. Water Education Projects

Beneficiary/Grantee/Contractor: CWCB, Various
Amount of Request: $75,000

Ranking: High

Product Produced: These requested funds would be used to fund CWCB education projects. For
example, we will continue to enhance our educational kiosk, our web site and public information
material, The CWCB will also provide funds to entities that will help accomplish the CWCB mission of
conserving, developing and protecting our water, for example, funds could be provided to the Colorado
Mining Association to educate its members about the CWCB programs and projects, the Tamarisk
Coalition, the Colorado Foundation for Agriculture, and the Aspinall Foundation.

Water Planning Relationship: The funds and associated projects will improve public
understanding of the value of water as a scarce natural resource. This will help local and regional water
planning efforts where public understanding and input is important.

Recommendation: Staff gives a high recommendation to the funding of this project because of its
impact to educate the public to understand the scarcity and value of our water commodity.

5. Tamarisk Control Equipment

Beneficiary/Grantee/Contractor: Tamarisk Coalition
Amount of Request: $46,000

Ranking:

Low

Product Produced: Specialized equipment used by the Coalition to control tamarisk to improve water
availability, quality, and riparian habitat.

Water Planning Relationship:
needs,

By removing the tamarisk, more water will be available for other

Recommendation: Staff gives a low recommendation to funding for this project because buying
capital equipment has not been a purpose of severance tax funds,

Flood Protection Program

1.

Statewide Floodplain and Stormwater Criteria Manual

Beneficiary/Grantee/Contractor:
Amount of Request:

CWCB, Local Entities
$60,000

Ranking:

High

10
