<br />DWR, as part of Arkansas litigation, is in the process of developing a scope of work to refresh irrigated acreage <br />within the Arkansas River Basin. As part of the CWCB's long-range plan of decision support systems in each <br />river basin, the CDSS program will assist DWR in the Arkansas irrigation refresh effort to insure that the data <br />and methodology is consistent with the CDSS standards. This assistance of money and expertise will be a cost <br />saving when CDSS moves into the Arkansas River basin in the future. <br /> <br />The last element of this grant request deals with looking at the feasibility of using existing satellite imagery <br />obtained under the CDSS program for the South Platte, Rio Grande, Colorado and Arkansas River basins to <br />help identifY and delineate tamarisk stands. It is thought that a methodology can be developed that is basin <br />independent to identifY tamarisk. <br /> <br />CDSS Irrigated Acreage Refresh Goal <br /> <br />The CDSS irrigated acreage refresh goal is to refresh irrigated acreage on a 5-year cycle and try to establish <br />water user cooperation within each of the basins. This component of the CDSS, provides the State of Colorado, <br />water users and managers a better means for organizing, accessing and evaluating a wide range of information <br />and altemative strategies for managing their water resources to achieve the CDSS overall goal. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the Board request the General assembly authorize $150,000 from the Construction Fund <br />to be appropriated to the Colorado Water Conservation Board for the CDSS irrigated acreage refresh program. <br /> <br />Flood Protection.
