I

water aquifers in the State of Colorado, but
it is a narrow valley area and the response
of ground water to climatic and water uses is
more rapid in that area than in any other area
of the state. So it furnished us with an ideal
laboratory to make a pilot study. This is being
done in cooperation with our Board, with the
State Engineer's office, the Geological Survey,
the Corps of Engineers and the United states
Bureau of Reclamation.

The primary field work is being done by
the United States Geological survey of which
Mr. John Moore, who is present here today,
is the Field Chief. On the walls to the rear
here are maps (pointing). The maps with the
green on them, and the red showing the wells
have been prepared by our staff and they are
still in the process of preparation. Those
maps are being prepared from Canon City to
the state line and reflect all existing surface
decrees, the ditches, canals, reservoirs, etc.,
that are now in existence in the Arkansas
Valley. The green areas represent the irri-
gated areas. The red lines indicate canals
and ditches. The red dots indicate wells.
For each well there is a legend indicating the
depth of the well and its yield. After each
canal we have indicated the surface right in
its order of priority.

I

This has been a very revealing study and
it has taken literally thousands and thousands
of man hours to develop all of this information.
Much of it is furnished to us from the State
Engineer's office - Mr. Colburn and his section
in there, the Ground Water Section - and most
of the information is actually checked in the
field by the personnel of the Geological Sur-
vey. This gives us the first comprehensive
picture that has ever been obtained on the
water resources of the Arkansas Valley. This
has been an invaluable aid to us in determin-
ing what should be done in that area.

All of this information will then be put
on the electric analog model which is now under
