farmers get it started again, a great amount of storage water has
been lost.

The proposed project is expected to remedy the problem.

CURRENT STATUS

In November 1979, the Mancos Water Conservancy District applied

to the Colorado Water Conservation Board for a water project. The

District subsequently submitted a study which was prepared by the U.S.

Soil Conservation Service (SCS) and which addressed the existing

problem. The submitted study is the basis of the current proposal.

PROPOSED PROJECT
The proposed project, as specified in the SCS study, involves
the construction of a concrete drop inlet diversion structure with
rock headgate and sluice way, and pipe connecting diversion to the
bench flume, Adapted grasses will be established on all disturbed
areas of construction for revegetation and erosion control. The

total estimated cost of the project including technical assistance

under an SCS RC&D program, land rights, project administration, and
land treatment, is $250,000.

RECOMMENDATION
The members of the Mancos Water Conservancy District are very
anxious to have the above described project constructed. They feel
that the elimination of rock from the inlet structure and the steady
flow of water into the dam will guarantee enough water for their

irrigation needs. The project as described above was already approved

by the CWCB staff and the Board but was not included in S.B. 67 (1980

-2-
