Produced Waters Workshop Scheduled: A Workshop Entitled "Energy and Water - How Can We
Get Both for the Price of One?" will be held April 4-5 in Fort Collins, The event is co-sponsored by the
Bureau of Reclamation, National Institutes for Water Resources, V.S, Geological Survey, and the Family
Farm Alliance

The overriding goal of this workshop is to enhance understanding of opportunities and challenges
involved in converting produced waters to beneficial use, This will be accomplished through the assembly
of disciplines and entities that can broadly characterize produced water sources, issues, and opportunities
for responsible identification and development of realistic beneficial uses, The workshop will
. Identify the key opportunities and capabilities of state-of-the-art treatment technologies for
produced waters;
. Initiate discussions regarding public policies to facilitate the development of this valuable
resource; and,
. Define a course of action to further evaluate and pursue these opportunities.
The Anticipated Audience will be Legislators, energy producers, water users, water supply planners,
government agency staff, and industry representatives

Western States Water Council Publishes 2004 Annual Report: In December the Western States
Water Council published its 2004 Annual Report, which reflects the level of activity of the Council
during the year, including meetings, resolutions, and policy statements.

Proposed Colorado River Basin Fund Drought Legislation: The Colorado River Energy Distributors
Association (CREDA) is proposing drought legislation that would maintain the tinancial viability of
the Colorado River Storage Project (CRSP) and provide for continued funding of environmental
programs during severe drought conditions by authorizing an appropriation of funds for the
operation, maintenance and replacement activities of the Bureau of Reclamation and the Western
Area Power Administration and non-power programs that utilize CRSP power revenues for
funding, during severe drought or other similarly caused conditions. Further information on the
