I do not have the latest reports of
the Reclamation Service because I have
gotten the incurable disease of old age
and I can't keep up with this business
forever. I don't have the energy and I
try to earn a living.

Le t me show you, I was with the
Continental Oil Company geology group in
1923 when they geologized this valley for
oil. I never expected to be here practicing
law. I didn't expect to be a lawyer at
that time. This is a unique position.
One of my college roommates, Doctor Armand
Eardley -- the reclamation men who are
geologists will recognize the name immediately
he is the head of the Mineral Science School
at the University of Utah; many years a
professor of geology at Michigan, and a
year ago I saw him for the first time in
years and he gave me a book, the only one
of its kind, Structural Geology of North
America -- I have it there in my office --
by the way, the Russians have plagiarized
it and he has commissioned me to collect
60,000 rubles from the Russians for copy-
writing it. But, of course, I can't get
the rubles out of the country. Adlai
Stevenson couldn't so I don't think I could.

I studied this again -- he has in his
book, Structural Geology of North America,
the only book written of its kind -- this
is a unique situation here. They talk about
the Closed Basin. What they are talking
about is a whole basin surrounded by
mountains. This is a fold in the land and
the only outlet is the Rio Grande River.
This whole area is a bowl. Any time you
think you can take more water out of a
bowl than you put in the bowl, you got
some thing. I'll copywrite it for you,
I'll patent it for you and we'll both
make money.
