SPARKS:

"Larry, do you contemplate any service
road on the north side?"

"On the north side?"

"Up Soap Creek."

"You mean back down here - they are not
included in these plans to date, but I assume
that there will be some in there, Jake, can
you answer that?"

"The existing area will, of course, have
to be serviced and it provides for a road up
Soap Creek for the Forest Service, etc., and
all those areas that need to be serviced by
a road, Likewise on the south side there will
be connecting roads, 149 and some of those.
In general, all of the forest service areas,
existing ranch'roads, etc., will be connected
regardless of where they meet the construction
of the relocation of the highway."

"Larry, I'd like to ask another question,
The standard of this new relocated Highway
50, is it going to be the same standard as
the existing road or will it be an improved
road ?"

"It will be an improved standard. Now the
Bureau, of course, is required only to replace
the existing roads in kind but the State High-
way Department has planned for many years to
improve this highway to their new standards.
As you know, portions of it has already been
improved from Gunnison on down. They held up
on this portion in through here until the
Curecanti was approved. The state Highway
Department will put in the additional money
necessary to bring these roads up to their
new standards. Consequently, the road will
be greatly improved and will meet existing
standards which you are all familiar with.

We will bridge the upper part of the
reservoir here at Elkhorn. The bridge over
the Lake Fork will be about 800 feet long
and again, about 250 feet high,"

Mbr. Sparks was asked about the policy regarding the
removal of cemeteries and if it was done with the advice of the
people involved.

I
