-;JVI'V
. ,

MR. STAPLETON:

MR. BITTINGER:

Experience with making such estimates has
shown that a range of plus or minus 10% is
reasonable so the data presented here are given
on that basis. The following tabulation summar-
izes the study:

Estimated Yearly Consumptive Use (acre-feet I
per year): On the Rio Grande - cotlsumptionin
Rio Grande County 9,500 to 11,600; in Alamosa
County 6,300 to 7,800; and in Conejos County
10,500 to 13,000. On the Conejos River, of
course that is all in Conejos County - 7,400 to
9,000. On the San Antonio, which is also all
in Conejos County - 700 to 800. This makes a
cumulative total all together of 34,500 to
42,100. '

The report goes on to say:

'In considering what part of the estimated
water use might be salvaged through a program of
vegetation ~ont;ol, past expe~ience provides
very little guidance. For tpe purpose of an
estimate, a conservative figUre would be 5~~.
On this basis 17,250 to 21,000 acre feet of
water might be estimated to be salvagable
annually.

In concluding, the writers wish to empha-
size that the data presented here are estimates
based upon the inspection of aerial photographs
and the application of water use coefficients
derived on purely empirical grounds. The esti-
mates are thought to be reasonable and conserva-
tive. On-site studies along the Rio Grande in
New Mexico by the USBR have developed water use
data which are somewhat higher than those used
here. '

Mr. Bittinger is here in case somebody
wants to ask him some qUestions."

I

"Are there any questions on that report?
Mr. Bittinger, would you like to amplify it in
any respect?"

"Not unless there are questions."
