541

RESUME OF ACTION TAKEN BY
UPPER GUNNISON RIVER WATERSHED CONSERVATION COMMITTEE
IN CONNECTION WITH CONSTRUCTION OF HIGH ALTITUDE DAMS (PARTICIPATING
PROJECTS)

Meeting October 2, 1956

At a meeting of the Upper Gunnison River Watershed Conser--
vation Committee held in the City Hall, Gunnison, Colorado, on Octo- I
ber 2, 1956, for the purpose of considering the construction of high
altitude dams and reservoirs in the upper reaches of the Gunnison
River and its tributaries (participating projects under the Upper
Colorado River Storage Project Act), the following action was taken
upon motions duly made and seconded and unanimously carried by the
members of said Committee:

1. It was urged that an investigation be made immediately
by the Bureau of Reclamation or the Colorado Water Conservation Board
of potential reservoir and dam sites on Tomichi Creek and its tribu-
taries for the purpose of finding reservoir and dam sites that are
feasible and would meet the Upper Colorado River Storage Project
criteria, and if such site or sites are found, that such project or
projects be given the No. 1 priority in this area.

2. That' the Ohio Creek project be given the second pri-
ority in the upper reaches of the Gunnison River and its tributaries
with the further understanding that if and when constructed, the use
of the water impounded in the reservoir on presently irrigated lands
lying under said project be given preference over water for new
lands located under said project.

3. That further study and investigation be made of poten-
tial reservoir and dam sites on the upper reaches of Slate and East
Rivers and if such sites are found which will meet the Upper Colo-
rado River Storage Project criteria, that the same be given priority
No. 3 in the upper reaches of the Gunnison River and its tributaries
with the further request that the water stored in such reservoir
site or sites be used to irrigate presently irrigated land lying un-
der said project or projects, and that such use shall have prefer-
ence over water to be used on new lands lying under said project.

4. That further engineering study and examinations be
made of dam sites and reservoir sites on Chochetopa Creek with the
view 9f making the Cochetopa Creek feasible and to qualify under
the Upper Colorado River Storage Project criteria, and that such
project be awarded priority No.4. Also, that if and when such 1=
project is constructed, that the use of water on presently irri-
gated lands be given preference over use of water for new lands
lying under said project.

5. That further and additional engineering survey and
examination be made of reservoir and dam sites on the upper reaches
of Cebolla Creek and its tributaries and if such sites are found
feasible and would meet the requirements of the Upper Colorado

i
