264

Mr. Dutcher than said that he understood from
Mr. Riter's statement that Curecanti was not out of
the picture.

j'lr. Riter replied he didn't know what the Depart-
ment was going to recommend in this revised report.
He stated he and Mr. Huffman were just explaining the
figures~

I

Mr. Saunders asked where Cross Mountain fitted
into the Upper Colorado River Storage Project.

Mr. Riter explained that Cross Mountain shows up
very favorablY. He also said that the information he
had indicated that Cross Mountain would produce power
at 5 mills per kilowatt hour, and that it is a very
highly desirable unit. Mr. Breitenstein then asked Mr.
Riter to describe the size of Cross Mountain.

Mr. Riter referred the inquiry to Mr. Huffman. Mr.
Huffman said that Cross Mountain is in Colorado and that
xt would back water up to Craig. The dam would be 290
feet high. It has the cheapest storage in Colorado -
even cheaper than in Glen Canyon. It could be justified
easier than any site in the basin. The power cost would
be around 5 mills. This is the project, he stated, he
tried to emphasize in talking to the Policy and Review
Committee.

Mr. Dutcher asked, "Do I see a figure on the last
sheet, on the primary estimate that we made, which in-
dicate~ that the cost of Curecanti power is 8.4? Is
Whitewater standing on its own feet?"

Mr. Huffman answered, "That is the small Curecanti".

Mr. Dutcher than asked what effect would the con-
struction of the small Curecanti have on the Whitewater
Reservoir?

Mr. Huffman replied that the small Curecanti would
have .2 mills less than Whitewater if the latter was
used with the small Curecanti.

I

Mr. Dutcher stated that he was not a member of the
Water Conservation Board when the Whitewater dam was re-
jected by the Water Board.

Mr. Bailey then stated that Mr. Tipton had to leave
soon and if anyone had any questions to ask him, to do so.

----
