As discussed at the last Board meeting, the House and the
Senate had each conditioned the appropriation for the project on .
the execution of a contract between non-federal entities and the
Secretary of the Interior providing ,for cost-sharing for the
project. The report language ultimately agreed to by the House
and Senate conferees is attached for your information, this
condition having been preserved by the conference committee.

South Platte Channelization Project

At the July Board meeting, I indicated that an issue had
arisen with respect to the potential extension of Ken Caryl Road
across the Littleton floodplain park, which park encompasses the
first stretch of river immediately below Chatfield Dam. This
reach will not be channelized because the surrounding lands will
be preserved in an undeveloped condition. The enclosed letter
from me to the District Engineer, Omaha District, Corps of
Engineers, sets forth the matters which I feel need to be
addressed before a decision is reached ,on the possible extension
of this road. As of the date of this memo, the City of Littleton
has not put forth its formal proposa~ for the road extension.

JWM/gl

Enclosures: as stated

.

.

MEMORANDUM

-2-

August 28, 1985
