Water for People: A Real Con1lict?"
October 8-9 . Copper Mountain Resort, Colorado

. Water issues in the West are frequently framed as a battle between proponents
of mstream flows for environmental protection and traditional uses. Water is one
of the most precious commodities, and competition for scarce supplies will
inevitable lead to some conflicts about how water should be used.
. The goal of this conference is to promulgate creative ideas for protecting
mstream flows while continuing to meet the water needs of a growing west.
Speakers will look at instream and consumptive water needs from social, biologi-
cal and economic values. Others will discuss specific strateaies for instream flow
protection and look at how well they can bridge the gap be~een "water for fish"
and "water for people:'
For additional information, contact conference Director David Nickum at
(303) 837.9383.

OCTOBER
8-9 Fourth Western Regional
Instream Flow Conference,
Copper Mountain Resort .
Information: David Nickum
(303) 837-9383, '
28-29 South Platte Forum, "Not in
My Watershed," Longmont.

30

Colorado Water Resources
and Power Development
Authority meeting; 9 a.m.,
1580 Logan St., Denver.
Information: Judy Kriss, (303)
830-1550, ex!. 12.

)
