Mr, Finlinson read a letter sent to Mr, Goslin concerning the
Curecanti, He stated that the Bureau had completed essentially all
the studies on that project but hadn't had the personnel to finish
the report.

Discussion of Bureau of Reclamation studies followed,

6, Report on Rio Grande Studies

Mr, Gildersleeve called attention to the Tipton Memorandum of
January in which he made recommendations for continued study, most~y
with the view of studying the Southwest Area,

MR, GILDERSLEEVE: "We have spent about 150 man days in the
office on those studies. We have kept up
studies of the surface water records and
ditch diversions along the Conejos and
have made an inventory of new wells,
especially the larger artesians, and
obtained all the information we could
on YQelds of those wells; also all
information of the U,S,G,S, on shallow
observation wells, Records of water
levels beginning in 1949 to date were
obtained, and water table contour maps
drawn, which show that even though there
had been consi4erable withdrawal through
1951, in 1952 there was a good recharge,
Even in 1951, the low point direction of
those contours did not change very much,

"We have also made some field inspections
of the old channels by which water diverted
from the Rio Grande could get into t~e Conejos.
The channels are still there but have been
dry for some time,

"We have hadfuur or five measurements on

the McIntire and Diamond Springs which have
been tributary to the Conejos, They show a
steady decline between April and August,

"We have tabulated agricultural statistics of
yields, acres irrigated, production, and
have gone back as far as 1928 when streamflow
records began under which the Compact was
established.

"We are hoping that within the next two
months we can put all these pieces together
and at least get out a supplemental report
and present everything up to date,"
