.

.

.

\

provide for the completion of these regionally specific studies on a local cost-share basis,
The CWCB provided $10,000 to each of three regions - the southern metro, the northeast,
and the northwest - which in turn was matched by an additional $25,000 in each region.

The southern region study provides a more refined level of analysis than was included in
the MWSI on how a conjunctive use project could work The northwest region study
provides a more detailed description of future unmet needs, system "bottlenecks," and
under-utilized water rights and collection / delivery system assets of Broomfield, Arvada,
Westminster, Denver Water, and Consolidated Mutual, The northeast study focuses on
effluent reuse opportunities for Thornton, Denver, Brighton, the Rocky Mountain Arsenal,
FRICO, and others,

A final report has been completed and delivered for the northwest metro region, A final
report has been completed for southern region, but still requires some minor editing prior to
delivery, Extensive data collection and organization and some modeling has occurred in
the northeast study, but Thornton's litigation with Denver has temporarily stalled
completion of this study.

NEXT STEPS

In the southern region, the Douglas County Water Authority, Denver Water, and the
Colorado River Water Conservation District have agreed to step back from a focused
examination of conjunctive use to look morC generally at management of the in-basin water
assets available to the southern region water providers, This analysis is necessary to
address long-standing concerns expressed by western slope that growing communities in
the southern metro area need to do more with the water they have before seeking additional
supplies from the west slope, Resolutions supporting this analysis have been adopted by
the three organizations, and are attached, Scoping for this analysis has just gotten
underway, and is expected to be complete by this fall, after which the parties envision a two
year analysis of options to more fully use in-basin water supplies, Presently, there is no
role contemplated for the state of Colorado, though the parties have been informed that the
Department ofN atural Resources would assist if invited.

There are presently no continuing efforts involving the state in either the northeast or
northwest regions, though opportunities do exist to continue to nurture discussions
regarding cooperative water supply actions, .

-
