.

.

.

July 29, 2002

Dear Members of the Colorado Water Conservation Board,

On behalf of the Board of Directors and citizens of the Town of Monument, I want to express sincere
appreciation for awarding a grant of$ I 94,428 to the Town of Monument. This grant will assist in
offsetting the more than $400,000 incurred mitigating lost habitat of the Preble's Meadow Jumping
Mouse during repairs to Monument Dam. We extend this thanks to Mike Serlet and members of your
staff who helped shepherd us through the process of application and who continue to support our
efforts in restoring Monument Reservoir.

The repairs to Monument Dam are nearing completion. Assuming we begin receiving some rain, the
reservoir will be eligible to begin filling in August. We look forward to the time when the
Department ofFish and Wildlife will be able to stock the lake and restore a favorite "fishing hole" to
northern EI Paso County.

We invite you to come and view the results of your support. Feel free to contact me at 719-481-2869
or bkonarski(@,earthlink.net for a personal tour of the site.

Warm regards,

E.L. Konarski, Ed.D.
