182'

During the Upper Rio Grande Joint Investigation which was carried
on by the National Resources Planning Board, accurate maps were made of
the irrigated areas in all sections of the basin as of 1936. To de-
termine the present situation a~ compared with the 1936 situation, I
would suggest first a cruise over the area by plane by a competent
observer who could check on one of the 1936 maps new areas. This then
should be followed by the taking of aerial photographs and preparation
of mosaics of any substantial new areas that may have been developed.
Seepage runs should also be made oh the Conejos River to determine
whether the artesilli~ contributions to lower reaches of that river may
have been reduced by deep well pumping which has been developed e~st
of the river, or which may have been caused by other reasons.

I

The following is a rou~h estimate of the cost of the' above de-
scribed work: .

Cruise by plane and the sketching in of newly
developed irrigated area

$1,000.00

Aerial photographing, preparation of mosaics
and furnishing of one set of contact prints
for an estimated 200 square' miles

Office vrork of comparing mosaics ,vith 1936 map

6,000.00
600.00

Seepage runs on the Conejos

500.00

Preparation of exhibits and report

Total

1,000.00
900.00
$10,000.00

Contingencies

Trusting the above gives you the information you desire, I am

Sincerely yours,

RJT/joh

/s/

R.
