162

I

Mr. Dutcher made the following statement, "Regarding
renaming Granby Dam for Judge Stone, we certainly
don't want to upset what has been done regarding this.
However, if there are any : objections at all, we would
welcome the opportunity of receiving them. Personally
I would prefer to rename Platoro Project in his honor,
for the reasons, first that it is Judge Stone's own
County, and second, he worked so hard to get the Policy
and Review Committee together. It was through his
efforts that we finally reached a compromise between
Montrose, Delta and Gunnison Counties. I think our
people would be extremely happy if that reservoir, if
constructed, were na~ed after Clifford Stone. Want to
reiterate that I don t want to do anything at all to
upset what has been done to get Granby Dam named after
him. He worked hard on that project too. We do want,
however, to get our word in so if there are any serious
objections to renaming Granby Dam, we might consider this
other offer. 00n't relish naming a pump or dam for him.
We certainly know these big projects by names of reservoirs."

Mr. Breitenstein remarked, "In regard to Granpy Dam
being named after Clifford Stone, Senator Milliken showed
me a letter regarding this. I investigated and wrote
Senator Millik~n that in my opinion, changing the name
of Granby Reservoir should be forgotten because of the
opposi tion/

Mr. Pughe said, "I agree with Mr. Dutcher that Curecanti
Project would be more appropriate. Judge Stone was born in
Gunnison County where Curecanti Project is located, and he
practiced law there for years."

I

Mr. Breitenstein suggested taking the matter up with
Congress regarding change of name for the Reservoir; should
then think the thing to do would be to request either
Secretary or the Bureau to change name of that unit to
Stone.

Mr. Dutcher: "Would we be stepping on anybody's toes if
we stopped the Granby Dam Plan? It appears that it would
be better to name Cureaanti "Clifford Stone Dam" since it
is in his own County. Include suggestions that our Director
take matter up with proper authorities to see what could be
done. Then there is plenty of information about Clifford
Stone's background."
