The estimated total cost
of the project is $100,000. Please see the attached project summary and map.

Backaround
The GMRC, located in Mesa County, owns and operates 6 reservoirs on the Grand Mesa with a
combined total capacity of 1,595 acre-feel. The reservoirs are used to store water for the benefit
of the shareholders. Water is released to Kannah Creek and then diverted below the mesa to a
500-acre service area.

Grand Mesa Reservoir #1 is a Class 2 structure with a dam height of 22 feet and a capacity of
559 acre-feel. The State Engineer has imposed a restriction of storage to 8 feet below the crest of
the spillway because of a failure of the outlet system, seepage, and undersized spillway. The
restriction reduces the allowable storage to about 260 acre-feel. This project addresses only the
problems with the outlet system and will not result in removal of the storage restriction.

Grand Mesa Reservoir #9 is a Class 3 structure with a dam height of 16 feet and a capacity of
153 acre-feel. The State Engineer has imposed a restriction of storage to 3.4 feet below the crest
of the spillway because of problems with the outlet system. The restriction reduces the allowable
storage to about 50 acre-feel. All dam safety issues associated with Grand Mesa Reservoir #9 will
be addressed as part of the construction project, so that the storage restriction can be removed.

.'--..'

<<

3
