"I assume that Item #1 on the Agenda
is the selection of an attorney for the
Board. Since the last meeting I have
learned of perhaps one change in vote
for me and I have been advised there
might be one or more changes on the other
side. I have been doing a lot of think-
ing about this and it appears to me that
regardless of how the vote changed it
would be close and it wouldn't do much to
improve relations between the different
parts of the State.

Out of an earnest desire to minimize
any possible friction between the East
Slope and the West Slope and because I
think Colorado has too much at stake to
encourage or continue any intra-state
rivalry, I would like, at this time, to
nominate as attorney for the Board, Judge
Sparks of Delta. In doing that I want
to again express my appreciation to those
who have supported me. This is not an
easy decision to make and it isn't one
I would have made if I thought any real
benefit to the State would be done by
continuing the controversy but I don't.
I want to assure the Board and Judge
Sparks of my earnest and sincere support
for him in this work. I will be glad to
do anything that I can to assist and aid
him in his position.

At this time I would like to place
his name before you as attorney for this
Board. "

unanimous vote for Judge Sparks as attor-
