I

I

Mr. Wiscombe has the projects in the San Juan, San Miguel, and
Dolores River basins. Which of you is going to be first? Mr. Robins?

Mr. Robins: Right.

Mr. Stapleton: Go ahead, Mr. Robins.

Mr. Robins used a screen and slides to illustrate his presentation.

Mr. Robins: I am J. W. Robins, project manager of the Grand Junction
office, and Ed Wiscorrbe is p~oject manager of the Durango office.
Betwcen the two of us, we will cover tllese projects that Larry has
been talking ab~ut.

In accordance with your request, we have prepared a report on the
projects which have been authorized, but on which construction has
not yet been completed. (Put on the first slide, Ed). There are
nine projects in this category. These nine projects are shown as
red dots in the general location of western Colorado. At the top,
we have Savery-Pot Hook on the Little Snake, a tributary of the Yampa
River. Then we have the West Divide project in the vicinity of
Glenwood springs and Rifle. The Curecanti Unit near Gunnison, the
Fruitland Mesa project, Bostwidc Park, Dallas Creek, San Miguel,
Dolores, and Animas-La Plata. Of all of these projects, two are
under construction. On the other seven, construction has not yet
been started. I want to point out that in the absence of our region-
al director, Dave Crandall, who is attending the Bureau program
functions in Albuquerque, I will be covering the six projects in my
area and Ed will cover the three projects in the southwest area.

The Curecanti Unit was authorized by Public Law 485 in 1956. This
unit is located in Gunnison and Muntrose Counties (slide No.2) in
the lower reaches of the Gunnison River. These units include three
separate dams, Blue Mesa, Morrow Point, and Crystal. Each one of
them has powerplants, and one of the purposes is to regulate the
flow of the Gunnison River and generate power for the benefit of
the other participating projects in the Upper Basin. These proj-
ects provide not only river regulation and power, but flood control
and indirect irrigation benefits and extensive recreation benefits.
Last year wc had 750,000 visitors at Blue Mesa reservoir. Inciden-
tally, the majority of these were non-locals, from out of the state,
or not from this particular area.

The current program on the Curecanti Unit includes some work on ice

-2-
