I

I

the environmental impact statement and exploratory drilling for the
tunnel. There is a write-in fund this year of $500,000. Whether
the Bureau of Budget will approve that money, we don't know at this
time. But if we get it, this will give us an opportunity to start
construction on these various items.

The next transparency (Slide) shows the economic impact some of these
projects have on the area. It is never brought out in our reports
or publicized very much. I want to point out that on the Fruitland
Mesa project, the construction costs will amount to about $14 per
acre or $14,000 in 100 years, The return from that over the 100-.
year life of the project to the rancher or in farm produce will be
about $32,000 per acre. The gross income from the project to the
ranchers would be around $368,000,000 over a 100-year life for the
project.

This next one, the impact on the economy, is based on a study made by
the University of Nebraska. (Slide) The way the University of
Nebraska analyzed this was that for every dollar in farm sales from
crop production there is a multiplier of $1.29 from the farm supplier
in the area and $4.39 that goes to processors and handlers, and so on.
The Bureau of Reclamation has not necessarily adopted this, except
for information purposes.

On the basis of this Nebraska study, the effect on the economy of the
State of Colorado of the Fruitland Mesa project over a 100-year life
of the project would be two and a half billion dollars.

(Slide) This chart just shows graphically the amount of money that
will be repaid from the Fruitland Mesa project. Of the total cost,
almost $32,000,000 will be repaid. Of the total cost, $274,000 is
allocated to recreational use and about $2,000,000 to fish and wild-
life uses, which will be non-reimbursable. The point I wanted to
make is that $32,000,000 of the total cost of $34,000,000 will be
repaid.

The Savery-Pot Hook project was authorized for construction in 1964,
along with the other two we have just been talking about. Almost
thirteen years ago the project was ready for authorization.

This project will be a multipurpose development also. It will provide
for flood control, irrigation, recreation, and fishery uses.

Storage regulation will be provided in Savery reservoir on Savery creek
in Wyoming and in Pot Hook reservoir on Slater creek in Colorado.
