With the passage of House Bill 98-1189, the City of Sterling received authorization for a <br />loan in the amount of $550,000 for the Project. To complete the Project funding package, the City <br />is applying for an additional $700,000 in funding. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Project consists of constructing flood control levees and floodwalls, highway closure <br />structures, bridge enlargements by the UPRR and CDOT, conduits under railroad and irrigation <br />canal embankments, and channel cleaning, The Project will lessen the frequency and severity of <br />flooding and decrease predicted damages and inundated areas within the Pawnee Creek and Pawnee <br />Creek Overflow floodplains within the City of Sterling and portions of Logan County, providing <br />100-year flood protection to those areas. <br /> <br />CWCB and City staff presented this loan application at the November 24, 1998 CWCB meeting <br />and provided a status and update report to the Board members regarding the project. At the <br />November 1998 meeting, the Board expressed two concerns regarding the City's fmancing <br />responsibilities related to the Project.
