MR. SWEET:

~I

}1m. NOSES:

r.m. SWEET:

I

3-%- b'l7

"We have, in general, three
types of wells planned. The
first type I had planned on
putting down if the investigation
is made, is shalbw(ten-footl wells
such as we have generally around
fhe Valley. Their location will be
confined to an area adjacent to
Russell Lakes Channel east of
Highway 17, from there to the
Divide between the Closed Basin and Rio
Grande along the general center line
of the sump."

"Just a moment. Here, pass these
maps around."

"The general plan for location of
the we11s will be along the alignment
started in upper left hand corner
of the map which is below the Russell
Lakes. All shallow wells would be
put down first and would be for the
purpose of sampling the water type
and quality. They would be at
intervals and extend to a maximum
of about two miles on either side
of that channel.

Following the obtaining of the
samples, we had planned to intersperse
groups of three wells which would
probably put at approximate depths of
30, 50 and 65 feet. In no instance would
the deepest go below the first persistent
clay layer of any thickness. From the
results of the geological study by
the Geological Survey, State of Colorado,
and Bureau, we have a fair idea where
that persistent clay lays along that
alignment. These groups would be
interspersed as indicated by the
quality of water from the shallow wells
found in the sampling program. From
these various depths, we would determine
where a pump test was indicated, with
this understanding, of course, that
the water is of a nature that it cannot
be considered under the terms of the
Rio Grande Compact would not be
used as, for instance, in the areas
along this line from the San Luis Lake
south.
