The Appleton Northwest Lateral & Drainage Corporation operates the Appleton Northwest Lateral as a
carrier ditch for the benefit of its 28 shareholders by delivering water from the GVIC Main Line Canal
for irrigation within a 250-acre service area. The lateral is located about 5 miles northwest of Grand
Junction. The lateral needs to be rehabilitated by placing the ditch in pressurized plastic pipeline and
constructing a new head gate on the GVIC canal. The new pipeline will have a capacity of 5 cfs. The
Appleton Northwest Lateral & Drainage Corporation is a mutual ditch company and a nonprofit
corporation registered in the State of Colorado. The NRCS has completed preliminary plans and a
cost estimate for the project and the Company has completed the feasibility study. Proposed funding
for the project consists of a CWCB Small Project Loan for $100,000 and the remainder from the
NRCS in the form of a grant under the salinity program.
