This computer-based system allows decision-makers to access water resource
data, analyze data and simulate potential decisions and policies, examining the potential consequences. The first
two to three years will be devoted to data collection and the identification of additional data needs. Data is being
collected for groundwater, physical and structural aspects along with surface water resources that include
historical and operational aspects. Irrigated acreage obtained from satellite imagery is also being delineated for
the year 2001. It is hoped that the numerous water agencies Vfithin the basin will share much of the data they
already possess and that the funding available will provide new data of benefit to all users. Model development
and implementation will follow the initial data collection effort. The overall South Platte DSS is estimated to a
take approximately seven years to develop at the current funding level. ..

23.Lower South Platte Water Management and Storage Sites Investigation and Sustain Study
Authorization: HB 00-1419
Grant Amount: $140,000

SB 01-157

$500.000
Total

$640,000
Water Source: South Platte River
Location: Logan and Sedgwick
Sponsor:

Project Type:Multi-Use Water Planning
Project Manager: Rick Brown

Beneficiary: Statewide or Inqividual
. The CWCB authorized up to $14(>,000 to complete the reconnaissance study and the a
final cost was approximately $138,000. The initial results of the study indicated several potential projects, ..
which warranted future investigation and the CWCB authoriized funding to conduct a feasibility level study of
these "preferred altemative(s)", and if warranted, to complete an engineering design of the selected
aIternative(s).
