<br />Proiect Approvals <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Canon" Watershed <br />Approval for final design and construction was authorized on <br />April "1. 1969. The project involves construction of three flood- <br />water retarding structures and channel work at an estimated cost <br />of $1.589.850 for the protection of areas in Canon city. Town of <br />East Carion and associated farming lands. Funding request awaits <br />ac~~isition of land rights necessary for the first construction <br />u#it. <br /> <br />Planninq <br /> <br />Crooked Arrovo Watershed <br />The watershed is tributary to the Arkansas River and is located <br />in Otero County southwest of La Junta. The watershed contains <br />about 72.115 acres. The sponsoring organizations are the East <br />Otero and Timpas Soil Conservation Districts. the Otero C9unty <br />Board of Commissioners and the Crooked Arroyo Conservancy dis- <br />trict. Preliminary investigations indicate four floodwater re- <br />tarding structures and channel work feasible at an estimated <br />cost of $1.176.000. Approval to develop final plan was received <br />January 13, 1969. Draft of work plan is scheduled for August <br />1969. <br /> <br />Boxelder Creek <br />Approval to develop a work plan was received April 7. 1969. This <br />watershed is located northeast of Fort COllins. Colorado and con- <br />sists of 145.082 acres in Colorado and 15.558 acres in Wyoming <br />for a total of 160,640 acres. Preliminary investigation studies <br />indicated five floodwater retarding structures estimated to cost <br />$1.854.000 to be feasible. A draft work plan is scheduled for <br />August. 1969. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Black Squirrel Creek <br />Development of a draft work plan including four floodwater re- <br />tarding structures estimated to cost $2.800.000 has been delayed <br />indefinitely by land rights problems. Tentative agreements have <br />been developed on the multi-purpose use of one of the floodwater <br />structures for fishing and shore based recreation water near <br />Peyton. Colorado in El Paso County. Sponsors for this 230.400 <br />acre project are the Black Squirrel Soil Conservation District. <br />the El Paso County Board of Commissioners and the Colorado Game, <br />Fish and Parks Commission. <br />
