"

'h

The CDOW has already collected and moved many of the CRC trout located in Cunningham
and Middle Cunningham Creeks to special holding ponds located at the CDOW hatchery
facility in Glenwood Springs. The plan to ensure all the non-native trout are eradicated, is to
have the Bureau of Reclamation (BoR) forego their existing 1.0 cfs bypass amounts on
Cunningham and Middle Cunningham Creeks for 3 to 5 days. We believe that the best time
for this to occur will be sometime during the first two weeks of August.

The BoR has the ability of diverting the majority of the flow of Cunningham and Middle
Cunningham Creeks with their North Side Collection System (NSCS) diversion structures. The
small amount of flow which accrues to Cunningham Creek below these diversions should
maintain the existing environment for this short period of time. After the flows are reduced, the
CDOW will use several teams with backpack shockers to shock the creek and the remaining
pools and remove the non-native fish. After the bypass flows are restored, the CRC trout
being held at the hatchery will be restocked back into Cunningham Creek.

We are currently working with the BoR, Division Engineers Office, Colorado River District,
Pitkin County and Trout Unlimited to identify the specific details for making this project
possible. If we can resolve all of the parties' concerns, the CDOW will ask for the Colorado
Water Conservations Board's final approval for this temporary flow reduction at their July
Board Meeting.

If you have any additional questions or concerns regarding this request please don't hesitate
to contact me at 303-291-7267.

Sincerely, L

,I ;.

M} ,,,,...bI
Colorado Division of Wildlife
Instream Flow Program Coordinator

Cc: Jay Skinner, CDOW Water Unit Program Manager - wlo attachments
Sherman Hebein, CDOW Senior Fish Biologist - West Regions - wlo attachments
Alan Czenkusch, CDOW Aquatic Biologist - wlo attachments
