..::...::.u..::.

MR. STAPLETON:

MR. MILLER:

MR. BARKLEY:

because they also will share in the benefit.
Those are matters that I think are details
that may cause a good deal of opposition or
make controversy, but it seems to me that they
will ultimately have to be worked out.

There is another matter that seems to be I
more or less of a general opinion in that
country and that is that there is too much silt
comes down the Bijou for it to be of too much
benefit to the irrigation headgate. Usually
after a heavy flood in the Bijou, if they have
the" gates open, they have a job of cleaning.
One oldtimer was heard to remark it was too
thick to drink and too thin to plow, and I
saw a statement one time where an analysis
had been made which showed a 30% silt content
in the water. So there may be a benefit in
that matter, of keeping that silt out of the
main stream.

Anyway, it hasn't been mentioned today,
so I'm going to do it. I want to see a study
made of that reservoir on the upper watershed
of the Bijou Creek because any water you keep
there and get in the underground you are going
to get 10~/o of it back and you are not going
to do that up at Hardin nor would you have done
it at the Narrows.

Thank you."

"Thank you, Mr. Cuykendall. Before you
go ahead,Mr. Miller, I would like to intro-
duce Representative Ray Farr. Would you mind
standing up? Glad to have you here."

"Mr. Chairman, Mr. J. R. Barkley, Secre-
tary-Manager of the Northern Colorado Water
Conservancy District, a member of the Colorado
Water Investigation Commission and a holder of
many other honors. Mr. Barkley."

I

"Mr. Chairman and members of the Board, in
the interest of time I don't want to say very
much in behalf of the district. After all, I
think it is well indicated to you that everybody
