Would like to be recorded
voting for program."

I

There followed further discussion concerning the necessity of expediting
surveys and investigations in Nestern Colorado. It was the unanimous view of
all members of the Board, as expressed in such discussion, that such a program
was of prtmary importance to the State of Colorado. The Director pointed out,
however, that such investigations could proceed only as fast as federal funds
are made available to Region 4, Bureau of Reclamation, for that purpose; and,
he said, there was a present disposition in Congress, under the prevailing de-
fense and international situation, to reduce appropriations for such surveys
and investigations. He suggested that, without objection, the record of this
meeting showl

1. That the Director be instructed to use any and all
reasonable measures to aid in securing necessary appropriations
to the Bureau of lteclamation for expediting surveys and in-
vestigations in ~estern Colorado.

2. That emphasis be placed on basin-wide investigations,
including the completion at as early a date as possible of in-
vestigation of the so-called "Cliffs Divide Project", the
latter being a basin-lr.lde reconnaissance survey of that por-
tion of the Colorado River from its source to its confluence
with the Gunnison River.

J. That the Director of Region 4, Bureau of Reclamati on,
in charge of surveys and investigations for the Upper Colorado
River Basin, which includes the natural basin of the Colorado
River lying in Colorado, be urged to expedite the West Slope
investigations as promptly as possible and as funds are made
available therefore.

4. That the Colorado Senators and Congressmen be fully
informed concerning the need of such surveys and investigations
and urged to exert their best efforts to obtain aPPropriation
of funds, for the USe of the Bureau of HecJ,amatioii; tQ.,carry
on such work. . ^, . .
". ;;

I

'-
In line with the foregoing instruction;to the-!Urector of-the Board,
it was suggested by Teller Ammons that the Direc~or of Region 4, Bureau of Recla-
mation, be urged to attend a meeting of this Boar.c], when the views of the Board
regarding ITest Slope surveys and investigations m~;be fully expressed and ex-
plained to him; and he, in turn, be asked to reviewc_the status and plans for
the future for carryine out such survey and investigat;j,3na1 program.
.
