The Task Force was directed to sIDdy a <br />list of topics (See Appendix A for Section 389 of Public Law 104-127 selting forth the list of <br />topics 10 be studied and the Joint Explanatoiy Staternent of the Comminee of Come renee, House <br />Conference Report No. 104-494 (March 25, 1996)) and report to the Secretary of Agriculture <br />and the Congress by August 25, 1997. <br /> <br />The Task Force held ils initial meeting on September 24, 1996. II held a total of 12 <br />meetings. including meetings in Reno, San Francisco, Boise, Denver, Portland and Washington, <br />D:C. All meetings were open to the public, and public testimony was accepted at many onhe <br />meetings. Wrinen testimony was also accepted. A list of items submitted for the record has been <br />maintained by the Forest SeMee. The meetings were conducted in accordance with the Federal <br />Advisory Committee Act.
