Water Project Construction Non.Reimbursable State Investment .. Project Data

Grantee: Colorado Water Conservation Board

Project Name: Elkhead Reservoir Funding Sources: CFlNative Species
Environmental Compliance Conservation Trust Fund

Project Type: Environmental Study T,ype of Borrower: Conservancy District

County: Moffat Median Household Income: NA

Drainage Basin: Yampa CWCB Grant: $500,000

Water Source: NA l,terest rate: NA

Tota) Study Cost: $500,000 ~erm: NA

The funds being requested would allow the CWCB to share the estimated cost of
conducting environmental compliance studies associated with reservoir enlargement.

The enlargement of the reservoir is a component of a Yampa River Basin Plan.

The plan is intended to the basis of a Cooperative Agreement between the US Fish and
Wildlife Service and the state. The agreement would then be the basis for a Programmatic
Biological Opinion that wilI explain how the Upper C~lorado River Endangered Fish Recovery
Program will allow water development in the Yampa ~iver Basin to continue for the next several
decades while four endangered fish species are recovered.

The plan embodies two major goals: providing approximately 7,000 acre feet of water for
the fish from new and existing sources and the management of non-native species. At least 3,700
acre-feet of this water would come from an enlarged Elkhead Reservoir.

.

.

.
