<br />COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD <br />823 State Centennial Building <br />1313 Sherman Street <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 <br /> <br />September 9, 1980 <br /> <br />ST. VRAIN AND LEFT HAND WATER CONSERVANCY DISTRICT <br /> <br />The St. vrain and Left Hand Water Conservancy District is located in <br /> <br />Boulder and Weld Counties and includes the city of Longmont. About lOO,OOO <br /> <br />acres of irrigated land are situated within the district boundaries. Present <br /> <br />population residing within the District totals about 60,000 people. <br /> <br />The district submitted an application to the Colorado Water Conservation <br /> <br />Board (CWCB) on June 23, 1980 requesting funds to complete a feasibility in- <br /> <br />vestigation underway and for core drilling on two proposed reservoir sites. <br /> <br />The district estimates that to accomplish the remaining work on the feasibility <br /> <br />study and the core drilling would cost about $140,000. Of this total, the <br /> <br />district is requesting $70,000 from the Board Construction Fund, the remaining <br /> <br />one-half of. the cost will be assumed by the district. <br /> <br />Th~ district's proposed project includes two reservoirs and appurtenant <br /> <br />facilities to agricultural water supply, municipal and industrial water supplies,. <br /> <br />generation of hydroelectric power via pump-back storage facilities, recreation <br /> <br />and flood control. <br /> <br />The proposed Coffin top Dam and Reservoir would be located on South <br /> <br />St. Vrain Creek and includes the pump-back hydroelectric power facilities. The <br /> <br />structure would be a zoned rock-earth fill dam with a crest height of 325 feet <br /> <br />and a crest length of 2600 feet. The reservoir would impound approximately <br /> <br />84,000 acre-feet with a surface area of about 680 acres. The dam and pump-back <br /> <br />power facilities are estimated to cost $l57,000,000. <br />
