e

e

e

-2-

Salinity Control Legislation: We were successful in moving the bill to raise the cost ceiling for
salinity control from the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources to the floor of the
Senate, but it was not taken to a vote in the Senate, nor was there any action in the House.
Consequently we will be working on the legislation again during the next Congress.

CSU Conservation Task Force: We are participating in a joint process with CSU to better the
understanding of Agriculture Conservation, how the term is used and is conservation in some
instances a reality or a myth. The task force plans to produce a report that provides a comprehensive
review of conservation and the reaction as well as interaction with water management strategies.

Dolores Proiect: We had a opportunity to tour portions of the Dolores Project which delivers water
to the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation. They have installed sprinkler systems on several new fields
southwest of Towac and produced crops for the second year. The irrigation component combined
with the domestic water supply which the Board assisted in developing has made remarkable changes
to the lives of the tribal members. We should all attempt to visit the reservation to experience first
hand the value of water and the improvements to the community that adequate water provides. This
agency should be proud of the accomplishments of the Dolores Project.

Long Range Plan: We have incorporated into the CWCB/DNR budget request for FY96 the Board's
priorities and goals as set forth in our Long Range Plan. Specific objectives have been included into
individUals' performance plans and the plan is being used as a tool to focus staff time and budget
allocations.

Consolidated Water Resource Information Center: We are drafting a lease for space at the Allison
Building across 13th Street since space is not available in our building. A scope of work to outline
duties for the purposes of hiring a temporary librarian/archivist is being written. A ineeting of the
library task force will be scheduled for late November to determine our next steps and to analyze
strategies for a permanent home for the library and adequate staffing.

Personnel: We will be holding a panel review for evaluating applicants for Construction Section
Chief in mid-November, and hopefully will announce the successful applicant soon thereafter.

w:\boardmemlnov94\agenda3.dcl
DCLlscm
