GreenCO requested funds to inventory, compile and standardize
regional "Best Management Practices" (BMPs) for landscape water use, including irrigation system
design, landscape design, fertilization, and plant selection criteria. GreenCO will also focus on public
outreach to facilitate the flow of this newly developed information to their members as well as the general
public.

GreenCO is an umbrella trade organization repre~enting the common interests of nine landscape-
related trades. It has over 2,000 member companies and'represents over 36,000 Colorado employees. In
1996, GreenCO's Board of Directors established a co~ittee to help GreenCO members respond to
threats posed to the industry by water shortages resulting'from drought and growth. Part of this response
included the development of "Best Management Practicef for this iudustry.

The goals ofthe proj ect were:

. Inventory and prioritize existing BMPs by region.
. Address the range of practices for the desig1i, installation and maintenance of landscapes by
industry, and address variations on a regional basis.
. Where needed, suggest additional or improved BMPs.

.

Page 30 001
