Adaptive Management Work Group

Introduction

The Final Environmental Impact Statement and the Record of Decision on the Operation of
Glen Canyon Dam established an Adaptive Management Program (AMP). The purpose of the
program is to develop modifications to Glen Canyon Dam Operations that protect, mitigate the
adverse impacts, and improve the values for which the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area
and the Grand Canyon National Park were established.

The AMP, under the direction of the Secretary of the Interior, is administered through an
Adaptive Management Work Group (AMWG), a Technical Work Group (TWG)) that reports to
the AMWG, and a Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center (GCMRC). The AMWG
membership is appointed by the Secretary and includes the Secretary's designee, and
representatives from the:
. Bureau of Reclamation
. Bureau ofIndian Affairs
. US Fish and Wildlife Service
. National Park Service
· Western Area Power Administration
. Arizona Game and Fish Department;
and
· One representative each from the six participating Indian Tribes
· One representative each from the Seven Colorado River Basin States
· Two representatives each from Environmental Groups and Recreational Interests
· Two representatives of Contractors who purchase Federal Power from the Glen
Canyon Power Plant.
