up a certain portion of their purchased water
to take care of these losses which New 1'1exico
claimed they would sustain. Therefore the
figure, instead of 5~, comes down to the
figure that Jimmy Geissinger mentioned or
4.7, eight-tenths of a foot being left in the
Acequia Madre for carrying purposes, evapora-
tion, etc.

vJe are now down to the point where, at
the last meeting, it was decided that we
should proceed with the amendments that are
agreed to in principle and begin working on
it. Mr. Reynolds, the New Mexico Commissioner,
and myself worked on this a bit and arrived at
certain facts and figures. We came up with
some changes and then we called upon our legal
representatives, Mr. Geissinger for the state
of Colorado and for the Interstate stream Com-
mission, Mr. Irby from New Mexico. They have
prepared tile document, more or less in legal
fashion, and it has now been gone over by the
Legislative Reference Bureau and a bill pre-
pared and that bill is in the hands of the
Interstate stream Commission. Only a day or
so ago, I received word from Mr. Reynolds that
his commission had that under advisement; that
he saw no objections to it himself; and that
he didn't anticipate the Interstate Stream
Commission of New Mexico would find any but
if there were any, they would be minor and it
would merely be a matter of Changing a word
or two here or there, or a figure or two on
which we think we.are all correct now.

This is the reason that we feel that this
matter has to be brought before this Board
and should receive the support of this Board
since it involves no particular principle of
water law in Colorado, it merely involves this
particular compact and these particular people
who now are not able to use their property
which they have bought, namely this water and
water right. To that end it is necessary that
we have this compact amended.
