And in view <br /> <br />of the magnitude of this fund presently, I think an ongoin <br /> <br />work of this kind will pay dividends in the long run. <br /> <br />I can give you a good example of some of the work <br /> <br />that the institute under Dr. Evans has done in terms of <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />water conservation over in our area. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Through some funding that we obtained from the <br /> <br />Environmental Protection Agency we were able to do a <br /> <br />very important study on land treatment, which was the <br /> <br />reuse, in this particular case, of effluent from the <br /> <br />Hayden sewer plant and reapplying this to the land. <br /> <br />As a result of that work we're now able to proceed <br /> <br />with a full blown, planned treatment scheme for a major <br /> <br />regional plant over in the Steamboat area. <br /> <br />And I'm just giving you this as an example of the <br /> <br />kinds of things that could come out of it. My suggestion <br /> <br />would be that if we support this funding, that we would <br /> <br />review the type of applied research projects that he would <br /> <br />propose so that we would have some idea that we're getting <br /> <br />our money's worth. <br /> <br />I personally would support it if there's a way to <br /> <br />do it. I do fully understand, however, that our construc- <br /> <br />tion fund is a loan fund, although I think we have agreed <br /> <br />that some of the funds when they go into feasibility <br /> <br />studies aren't repaid, tending to be grants. <br />
