Structures or facilities that use or store highly volatile. flammable, explosive. <br />toxic and/or water reactive materials. <br />. Hospitals, nursing homes and housing likely to contain occupants who may <br />not be sufficiently <br />mobile to avoid death or <br />injury during a flood. <br />. Police stations, fire <br />stations, vehicle and <br />equipment storage <br />facilities. and <br />emergency operations <br />centers that are needed <br />for flood response <br />activities before, during <br />and after a flood event. <br />. Public and pnvate utility <br />facilities that are vital to <br />maintaining or restoring <br />normal services to flooded areas before, during and after a flood event. <br /> <br /> <br />OPERATING PRINCIPLE <br />THE CWCB RECOMMENDS THAT COMMUNITIES USE THE SOD-YEAR <br />FLOODPLAIN AS DESIGN CRITERIA FOR DEVELOPMENT OF CRITICAL <br />FACILITIES. <br /> <br />2.9 FLOOD CONVEYANCE IN IRRIGATION DITCHES AND CANALS <br /> <br />There are a number of active. semi-active. or abandoned irrigation ditches and <br />canals within the State of Colorado. These irrigation facilities were originally <br />designed with flat slopes and limited flow conveyance capacities to mainly convey <br />irrigation water to farmers. settlers. and other users.
