.

.

COM

DRAFT Preliminary Water Demand Forecasts

Next Steps

The following are the next steps that will be taken to refine the projected water
demands for 2030.

. Low and high M&I water demand estimates will be made to bracket the baseline
demand with reasonable estimates. High and low population estimates will be
incorporated as well as the effects of increased water conservation, demographic
changes that increase or decrease the estimated per capita water use, and feedback
from the basin roundtables.

. Low and high estimates of future agricultural water demands will be made based
on assumptions regarding the transfer of agricultural water rights to M&I use or an
increase in irrigated acres. The baseline projections of agricultural water demand
for all b<tsins except the Arkansas and South Platte are that irrigated acreage will
remain constant.

. Additional increases or decreases in irrigated acres in all basins will be evaluated
during the alternatives phase of the project. Some basins have indicated a desire to
evaluate alternatives that will increase irrigated acres, while some alternatives may
involve <tdditional agricultural transfers to meet M&I demands.

5

S:IMEETlNGS\CWCB 8OAFlO\PRELlMINARY DEMAND SUMMARY MEMO TO CWCB_1-20-04 REV, DOC
