The
Dialo gue was formed to explore the possibilities of better managing the water resources in the
Dolores River Basin to everyone's benefit.

To address the many facets of this issue the group has developed a Plan to Proceed that involves
the formation ofa Technical Team, a Core Hydrology Group and a Core Science Group. The
Technical Team oversees the scope of work in the Plan to Proceed and is responsible to the
Dolores River Dialogue Group as a whole.

The Core Hydrology Group is looking into_the.hydrology and'water use inJhe_basin and is
identifying opportunities for improved water management foiwet,-normal-and dry year
conditions. They have completed their initial investigations and have provided their initial
findings to the Core Science Group for its use.

The Core Science Group is looking into the river system below McPhee Reservoir from a
fishery; both wann and cold water species, stream channel geomorphology, and environmental
perspective. Jim Siscoe, of Cortez, has been retained as the coordinator for the Core Science
Group and has assembled a team of scientists from several disciplines to address the varied
challenges presented by a study of this type.

The focus of the Dialogue's efforts this summer will be on the various studies of the Core
Science Group. The following is a progress report from Jim Siscoe, coordinator of this group:

Dolores River Dialogue
Core Science Summary 2005

The core science team was established in early February of this year to study and ultimately
integrate four primary areas of investigation; native warm water fisheries, cold water fisheries,
geomorphology and riparian ecology with hydrology through a community based stewardship
approach. The study area, Mcphee Dam to the confluence of the Colorado River has been

31
