Notice is hereby given that John R Thompson

red was "Applicant," hasor [sabout to file with the
Executive DJrector of the Colorado Department of
Naturai Resources an application for a permit to
conduct weather modification o~ratioDs within
the State of Colorado and wlthin the areas
hereinafter more specifically stated. The Appli-
cant shall conduct such operations for and on be-
half of the Bureau of Redamation, Montrose S~y.

81401. (The name of the person who shall be in
control of the weather modification project for the
corporate Applicant is John R 'I'liompson, who
holds Weather Modification LiceIl8e no 85-7).
The primary target area of the operations for
which a Weather Modification Pernut is sought is
described as follows:
Experimental cloud seeding will be conducted to
affect the primary target area within the Grand
Mesa region of western Colorado. This primary
target area includes those portions at and above
the 8,500 foot (msll elevation within tbe area
bounded by TISR2E on the northwest, T9SR91W
on the northeast, Tl2SR91 Won the southeast, and
TI3SR97W on the southwest, This includes the
eastern ~rtion of Mesa County and the northern
portion of Delta County.

Thegeneral area beyond the primary target area
which may reasonably be expected to be affected by
the weather modification operations for which a
pennit is sought mcludes a ROrtion ofthe following
counties within the State of Colorado:
Eastern Mesa
Northern one-half Delta
Extreme northwest Gunnison
Extreme western Pitkin
Extreme southeast Garfield
The expected duration of the weather modifica-
tion operations for which a permit is south is from

experiments is to derermine whether clouds over
the Grand Mesa can be effectively modified to aug-
ment winter snowpack. A CO~\Jence of the ex-
periments could result in a slight augmentation to
the snowpack within the research area, although
that is not the intent.
Complete details of the operations to be con-
ducted by the Applicant are available on request
from the Applicant or irom the Executive Director
of the DeJlartment of Natural Resources, 231 Col-
umbine Building, 1845 Sherman Street, Denver,
Colorado 80203.

A public hearing on the application for a permit
to conduct the proposed weather modification op-
erations shall be held at 10:30 o'clock AM on
September 26, 1985 at SPRUCE LODGE on Grand
Mesa, one-half mile east of Wan:! Lake tumofffrom
Highway 65, 17.5 miles north of Cedaredge, Col.
orado.
