.~ ~.

Target Area Rawinsonde - KVlRB Upper Air Station
Extra-Area Stom Surveillance - NWS Radar,
Telefacsiroile repeater
Operating Area Stom Data - Project Radar

5.4 Seedability Forecasts - Daily Operating recisions

Each day seedability forecasts will be prepared by
the Project Director, using the infonnation available fran the sources
shown in paragraFh 5. 3. '.!he criteria described in paragraFhs 5.1 and
5.2 will serve as a guide in making the seed, ro-seed decision.

Nonnally by 10:30 a.m. (cur) sufficient weather data is
available to give a good indication of the cloud ronditions that will
affect the project area for the ensuing 24 hours. At this tine the
seeding plans for the day will be issued to air crews and maintenance
personnel. If seedable ronditions are expected, the crews will be
given details about standby status, seeding strategy, seeding rates
and expected duration of the cloud system. If no seedable clouds are
expected, the crews will be placed on appropriate standby status for
recall in the event unpredicted stonns threaten the project area.
Figure 2 is a flCMchart of events which take place on a typical day.

'.!he initial daily operating decisions are made on
the basis of forecast infonnation and cloud nodel calculations.
While the data inputs are very useful in ~rking out crfM sc.~edules
and seeding strategy, they are not the only factors for making final
seeding decisions. For ~rking out the final seeding strategy, the
Project Director will also use real-tine observations obtained fran
the project radar and pilot reports.

5.5 Coordination lvith Other Projects

Plans published by the Bureau of Reclamation
indicate a rontinuation of HIPlEX research in Northwest Kansas.
Every effort will be made to cooperate with them in their research
activities. Procedures will be established to ensure a minimum of
interference with the HIPlEX project. 'Ihese will include notifica-
tion of seeding activity which may affect the research operation.
l'l'nen operating in that portion of the Muddy Road project area which
overlaps the HIPlEX experimental area, aircraft will establish radio
rontact with the radar facility at G:xxlland and operate their trans-
ponders at the identification rode requested by the rontroller.

Surrm3.1:Y reports of Muddy Road seeding locations
and anounts will be forwarded to the HIPLEX group on a rronthly basis.
