However, if we divide the, number of claims <br />by the number of planes assigned to the WKWMP, these data show <br />the number of claims per aircraft were 3rd lowest in 1997, with <br />total nu~er of claims fourth lowest within that group---almost <br />identical to the next lowest year, 1995, differing by only one <br />claim. <br /> <br />Although it cannot be proven with any certainty at this <br />point, this writer believes the data strongly suggests we are <br />seeing the effect that given enough aircraft and seeding <br />capability, we are significantly mitigating severe storm systems, <br />even fairly large ones. <br /> <br />Evert in 1996, with the 5th cloud base seeding aircraft added <br />to the WKWMP, it began appearing more obvious on a few operations <br />that our seeding of large severe storms were producing observable <br />seeding effects, however, the total crop-hail claim numbers <br />clouded the picture because there were so many of them from the <br />many severe storms. Although the hail-claims submitted were the <br />most-ever for the WKWMP in 1996, storm damage on its most <br />damaging day of the season, measured by hail claims, was in mid- <br />range within the group for number of hail claims submitted as <br />shown in Table 9. <br /> <br />36 <br />
